Dr Mitchell provides quality and committed paediatric care to children of all ages.
He is a Gold Coast local who has been particularly known for his relatability, easy-going personality and caring nature.
Dr Mitchell completed his specialist paediatric training across Queensland working within tertiary paediatric departments at Townsville, Royal Brisbane and Women’s, Queensland Children’s and Gold Coast University Hospitals.
He, his wife and young family are now based back on the Gold Coast and couldn’t be happier to be home and a part of the Leading Steps team.
With a passion for acute paediatric care and over three years of experience working within multiple paediatric emergency and intensive care units, he has a particular clinical focus on prevention and trying to keep his patients safe and managed, away from busy emergency rooms.
He sees all paediatric medical conditions and concerns including interests in respiratory and cardiovascular problems, allergies, nutrition, digestive health, obesity, constipation, incontinence, seizures, sleep and oncology follow-up.
Dr Mitchell has clinical experience and an interest in newborn medicine and developmental paediatrics and finds it a privilege to support children and their families through the newborn period to schooling years, tackling the difficulties that may occur along the way; from feeding and growth problems to behavioural concerns and issues at school.
Dr Mitchell likes to keep up to date and practice evidence-based medicine, is a published researcher and received the 2011 Griffith University Research Excellence Prize.
As a lecturer for Griffith University he is actively involved in medical student education and assessment and also assists in the running of specialty paediatric clinical examinations for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr Mitchell has up to date certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NeoResus Advanced), Advanced Paediatric Life Support and multiple paediatric critical care accreditations (BASIC, PACT, Optimus Prime).
When not at work you can find Dr Mitchell keeping active and likely on a walk at the beach with his young son or dogs in tow, and a good coffee in hand.
