FROM THE CEO
As the new year begins we can reflect on the
year that was.
In the later part of 2017 we have completed
a number of redevelopment projects within the
hospital, including the construction of brand new
birthing suites within the Maternity Unit that offer
expectant mothers and their partners an exceptional
birth experience. The suites offer luxury, comfort
and privacy and incorporate state-of-the-art
medical and monitoring equipment that enables our
doctors and midwives to handle any situation that
arises during the progression of labour.
The Oncology Ward relocated and now
encompasses a number of new features that
provide our patients with more comfortable
and convenient surroundings in which they can
receive their care. The new features include a
lounge area where patients can sit comfortably
with friends and family and a new fully equipped
kitchen/dining space where patients and visitors
can share a meal together. A new beverage bar
stocked with gourmet coffee, tea and niceties
will be installed in the ward soon.
Pindara also saw the opening of the new
Parkwood Specialists Centre located at the
Parkwood Village Health Precinct. This opening
brings specialist medical services closer to
the Northern Gold Coast Community with
orthopaedics, gastroenterology, paediatrics and
gerontology currently consulting from the centre.
Another new addition to Pindara in 2017 was
the establishment of a Clinical Trials Unit.

Medical research and providing patients with
the best treatment opportunities possible is an
important focus of Ramsay Health Care as an
organisation and Pindara is excited to be part of
this direction.
Further research continuing at Pindara this year
is that of ENT Surgeon Dr Brent McMonagle
who is a lead investigator on the Olfactory
Cell Transplantation (OCT) Project, currently
underway at Griffith University. The OCT
project is looking to develop an effective therapy,
and ultimately a cure for spinal injury and
paralysis. Dr McMonagle has begun harvesting
olfactory cells (cells used to smell) from
consenting patients at Pindara that will be used
to further this important research.
From research to celebration – December
marked the one year anniversary of the opening
of the new Pindara Emergency Department,
with a record number of patients treated over
that time. The Pindara Emergency Department
is one of the largest and best equipped ED’s
on the Gold Coast and will continue to provide
exceptional care to the Gold Coast community
for many years to come. Congratulations to all
involved in making it such a success.
Throughout 2018 Pindara will continue to offer
patients the very best care and facilities.
Warm Regards
Trish Hogan
