OUR PEOPLE
HUMANS
of Pindara:
VOLUNTEERS
ELIZABETH ‘BETH‘ MAY
Age 86 | Volunteer since 2001
“The funny thing about my being at Pindara as a
volunteer is that my wife Georgie actually volunteered
me to get me out of the house and doing something. I
had worked in sales for Kelvinator so after a time driving
patients from the car park to reception in a golf buggy I
was asked to help at the concierge desk. I am a real people
person so if I can help them to relax by having a joke or
take their minds off being admitted to hospital it makes it
all worthwhile. Originally I came from Malta, lived and
worked in Sydney and then we followed family up here
from Sydney in 2000. The volunteers I work with and the
staff at Pindara are really wonderful people so that it feels
like a big family. Away from Pindara my great loves are my
family and grandchildren, the Rabbitohs and fishing.”
“My time at Pindara has been such a blessing because
of the friends I have made and the wonderful staff.
Everybody smiles which makes coming in here to do
what I can to help such a pleasure. I moved up here
with my late husband Warren in 2000 and I am now
the longest serving volunteer. I did work at Westmead
Hospital in Sydney with the Red Cross and wanted
to help and a friend recommended I come here and it
has been absolutely wonderful. My work is helping in
administration in the maternity section doing the things
like the charts and other things that will help the nursing
staff. It has been a marvellous outlet because I have made
some great friends over the years and has helped with my
social life. I am here for one day a week and really look
forward to coming and doing what I can to help.”
