the results. They are both doting dads and love their families and children so
much and wanted the same for me.
7. What was your pregnancy with Teddy like? Was it a relatively easy
pregnancy or were there some bumps along the way?
It was easy until 20 weeks when I was diagnosed with an Incompetent
Cervix. It resulted in emergency surgery to stitch my cervix closed to
save Teddy’s life. I was so distressed at first and I definitely left some
of the nurses’ shoulders wet with all my tears. I just couldn’t believe that
after everything we had gone through and after only just announcing my
pregnancy that we were back at heartbreak again. Thankfully, the surgery and
hospital stay went well and I returned home for 10-12 weeks of complete bed
rest. It was a very anxious and stressful time for our family.
8. Did you get any weird pregnancy cravings? Or any other unexpected
pregnancy quirks?
Yes, I craved white toast with marmalade, but not just a smear of marmalade,
I wanted the whole jar tipped on top of the toast with lashings of butter!
9. How did you prepare for Teddy’s arrival? Did you create a nursery
and add any special touches or items?
While in hospital, I think Gerard decided to be and stay positive, so he got
the nursery painted and the furniture out of storage and prepared for when
I arrived home. It was such a lovely gesture as it gave us hope. While on
bed rest, I let my fingers do the planning for the decorations and ordered so
much stuff online that the mail delivery guy and I became mates. He was so
chuffed when I opened the door with a baby in my arms.
10. Did you know you were having a little boy or was it a surprise?
It was a surprise. We found out on national television with Millie, I was
working for The Kerri-Anne Kennerly show at the time and they filmed the
20 week scan for a story. This time though we decided to keep it a surprise so
we knew how both experiences felt. I have to say, I prefer finding out. While
it was lovely to hear you have a son after he arrived. I was so consumed with
the pain of childbirth and just relieved it was over that I didn’t care. When
we found out together at the 20 week scan for Millie it was fun, pain free and
joyful. Then, for the next 20 weeks you have so much fun doing the nursery
and buying clothes and toys – you really connect with the child inside of you.
I can see why reveal parties for babies are so popular now.
11. We understand Teddy arrived a little unexpectedly, can you share
with us your birth story?
He was a week early so I should have been more prepared than I was, but
I was booked in to be induced, so in my mind I was working towards that.
I was so blasé about it that I intended to work until that day, do my radio
shift in the morning, and then go to Pindara at 11am to be induced. It didn’t
pan out that way! On the Sunday, I was at a friend’s baby shower feeling a
little uncomfortable but I put it down to wearing high heels at nine months
pregnant. Later that night, I had some bleeding so we went to the hospital at
10pm just to check everything was ok. I sent a group message to my team
around 10.30pm to say that the doctor wanted to keep me in overnight to
observe me so I wouldn’t be on air in the morning. At 12.30am I sent another
message to say I had had my baby! The doctor was consulted by phone and
at first recommended an overnight stay, but then decided to come in to check
on me due to my history, and when he arrived we discovered I was five
centimetres dilated and I didn’t even know it! He broke my waters at 11pm
and by 12.01am I had Teddy in my arms.
12. What was the experience like when you and your husband finally
held Teddy in your arms?
It was amazing to finally have our little miracle with us and to see he had all
his fingers and toes and was perfect and safe – it was pure relief. We honestly
didn’t care if we had a boy or girl, I just wanted another child and a sibling
