Know My Midwife Program
In September, Pindara Private Hospital
introduced the Know My Midwife Program
within its Maternity Unit.
The Know My Midwife Program has been
developed to provide mothers who will deliver
at Pindara the opportunity to have pre and
post-natal check-ups with the midwives who
will attend their birth. A core group of Pindara
midwives have been specially trained to deliver
the program and will work in conjunction with
Pindara Obstetricians to provide an extra level of
care to our patients.
The program has been based around the concept
of ‘continuity of care’, a concept and style of
care research has proven is beneficial to new
mothers. Throughout the program, mothers
are cared for by the same midwife or group
of midwives throughout pregnancy, birth and
postnatally, allowing for a relationship of trust
and assistance to develop.
Expecting mothers will be able to register
their interest in participating in the program by
contacting the Maternity Unit directly or online.
New Alcohol and Substance
Use Program at The Southport
Private Hospital
A new Alcohol and Substance Use Program has
recently begun at The Southport Private Hospital.
The program runs for 10 weeks and is suitable
for adults who have previously made positive
changes to their alcohol and substance use and
wish to maintain their progress in treatment. The
program offers ongoing psychological support
and group therapy to prevent relapse back into
substance misuse.

Southport Private Hospital website or you can

Pindara Clinical Trials Unit Update
The Pindara Clinical Trials Unit has been
established as part of a broader Clinical Trials
Network within Ramsay Health Care and joins
11 other sites that are running clinical trials
throughout Australia.
Andrew McFadzen, RN, has been appointed
to the position of Senior Clinical Trials
Coordinator within the unit and will be assisted
by Zelda VanBiljon in her role as Clinical Trials
Coordinator. Andrew is an experienced registered
nurse and joins the team from similar roles within
both the public and private sectors. As the Senior
Clinical Trials Coordinator at Pindara, Andrew
plays an important role in the administration and
establishment of clinical trials but also in patient
care and experience throughout their trial.
Despite being only newly established, the unit
has already secured four clinical trials in Non-
Hodgkins Lymphoma, Urinary Bladder Cancer,
Prostate Cancer and Melanoma. While initially
focusing on the areas of oncology and haematology,
it is hoped that the unit will be able to expand its
focus to include other specialities over time.
