DREAM come true
Receiving the heartbreaking news that
you will never be able to have a child is a
difficult blow to take, especially when you
have dreamed of having a family of your
own for so long.
This was the reality for Rhiannon Semmens,
a reality that sent her on a journey
she never expected – a family through
surrogacy.
After suffering her second cardiac arrest due to
complications arising from a genetic heart disorder
and issues from previous fertility difficulties;
doctors told Rhiannon and her husband that the
strain a pregnancy would place on Rhiannon’s heart would simply
be too great and she would be unable to carry a child.
Rhiannon remembers the feeling when she was given the news.
“I was devastated. My husband and I had always wanted
a family and I felt like a failure. I was so disappointed that I
wouldn’t be able to give him that.”
However, over time Rhiannon decided she was not going to be
defeated so easily, and with the support of her husband, Chris,
decided to continue her quest to create her family.
She began researching all the options available including
adoption and fostering - with no luck; but it was when she learned
about surrogacy that a glimmer of hope began to take seed.
