While share plate dining is, by nature, staggered and disorderly, whereby one must often acclimatise to the teeth-chilling succession of hot and cold dishes, the girls manage to keep meal arrivals and departures evenly spaced and logical. They’re wine savvy too, and aren’t afraid to tell you what you’ll like. On ordering a glass of 42 Degrees South Pinot Noir from the Coal River Valley, our waitress raises her finger in a polite gesture of parley. Minutes later, hands wrapped around a Barossa Valley Sons of Eden Grenache Shiraz, with its concentrated, peppery depth of tannin and spice singing with the beef and beets, it’s clear the girl’s on the money. Sparrow’s wine list is short and sweet, with all bottles south of $50, and glasses ranging between $7 and $14. This all-Australian document covers some very trendy, new world boutique wines all from our colder states, including some organic and vegan-friendly drops. Being this place a lady haven, the Sarah Wilson no-sugar bandwagon might have you secondguessing dessert. Sarah says, “When you quit sugar, you quit eating crap.” Remember this when pushing your spoon through a plush slice of chocolate brownie, minding the two creamy mountains of whipped peanut butter as you navigate to the toffeesweet banana sand.
