Women’s Hea lth Breakthrough Gynaecological Treatment Arrives on the Gold Coast A new laser, now available on the Gold Coast for the first time, is being used to treat symptoms associated with a wide range of important women’s health issues. Obstetrician Gynaecologist, Doctor Suhad Hassan has introduced the MonaLisa Touch, a non-hormonal, non-surgical treatment for vaginal atrophy and associated symptoms. Vaginal ageing or ‘atrophy’ affects women of all ages, including around 50% of all postmenopausal women. Despite it’s prevalence, only 25% will seek medical advice. Symptoms suffered in silence include itchiness and burning, dryness and loss of lubrication, incontinence and urinary urgency, pain during intercourse, prolapse and laxity. Dr Suhad Hassan says some women, who have endured years of painful and uncomfortable symptoms, have experienced improvement after the first five-minute antiageing laser treatment. The MonaLisa Touch was inspired by the Smartxide ‘DOT Therapy’ laser, an anti-ageing treatment used on delicate areas including the face, eyelids and neck to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. Further advances in the technology allowed laser pulses to be tailored to a patient’s individual skin type and treatment area. This resulted in the laser treatment being specifically designed to stimulate the regeneration of vaginal tissue for the first time. 36 Pindara Magazine Autumn 2015
